ABOUT US

Settle Orchestral Society was formed forty years ago, in 1967. It follows a tradition of orchestras in Settle dating back to the nineteenth century.   This has included the Victoria Hall Music Hall concerts, the musical friendship of Dr Buck and Edward Elgar, the Zion Chapel Orchestra and the Giggleswick Church Orchestra, and the Settle Amateur Operatic Society.  For more than twenty years Settle Orchestra was developed and conducted by the composer, Arthur Butterworth. Howard Rogerson took over as musical director and conductor in 1992, and remained for 15 years until summer 2007. Click here to find out more about our history and previous conductors.

Rehearsals take place in Settle College at 7.30pm each Friday evening during the school term.  Settle Orchestral Society is Registered Charity number 1025554.

Tracy Keeley attended the Royal Northern College of Music after leaving Chetham's School of Music, and The National Youth Orchestra.  A playing career with French Orchestras followed, including the Monte Carlo Philharmonic and two years as resident Lead Violinist at the Monte Carlo Sporting Club.  On returning to London, she played with various string ensembles and directed chamber music courses at the American School in London, and at an annual Summer School in Avignon.  She nows lives with her husband, James, who is a barrister in Leeds.  She has built up an extensive teaching practice in and around West Yorkshire, but still finds time to give solo performances and pursue her love of chamber music. In summer 2002 she performed Vivalidi's Summer from The Seasons with the Settle Orchestra.
